ICCR Scholarship: IELTS/TOEFL Now Mandatory (from AY 2027-28)

ICCR has announced a mandatory English proficiency requirement for all ICCR Scholarship applicants from Academic Year 2027-28. Minimum standard required: • IELTS: overall band 6.0 or above, or • TOEFL: CEFR B2 (Higher Intermediate) or above. IELTS/TOEFL certification will be mandatory for the scholarship award, except for Indian language courses. The 2026-27 cycle is already closed and its results are out, so this rule first applies to students applying for the 2027-28 academic year. Optional preparation course: to help applicants reach this level, ICCR has introduced a three-month Online Advanced English Learning Course, conducted by Routes2Roots. It covers advanced English for following lectures in Indian institutions and basic conversational Hindi for daily life in India. Joining is voluntary; the IELTS/TOEFL certificate is still required. • Starts: 19 October 2026 • Classes: 36 in total (12 weeks), three times a week, 90 minutes each • Time slots: 12:30–14:00 IST (Mon/Wed/Fri) or 23:30–01:00 IST (Tue/Thu/Sat) • Who can enrol: any foreign national with basic English (read, write, speak) • Course fee: US$ 50 • Queries: Gurpreet Kaur, +91 70426 78708, gurpreetkaur@routes2roots.com • Registration: follow the instructions in the official notice linked below Our advice: if you plan to apply for ICCR in the 2027-28 cycle, book your IELTS or TOEFL early so your score report is ready before the A2A portal opens.
