Eligibility Criteria

Understanding the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme (GJSS)
The Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme is the undergraduate counterpart of MGSS. It is funded by the Government of India through the Embassy of India in Kathmandu and supports Nepalese students who have just started a bachelor's degree in Nepal. Like MGSS, it does not involve studying in India. The yearly amount and the number of years depend on the course group, and longer professional degrees such as medicine and engineering receive more.
The academic bar is higher than for MGSS: 70 percent in Class 12, counted without Class 11. It suits a strong Class 12 student from a lower-income family who is now in the first year of a regular bachelor's programme, whether that is MBBS, engineering, BAMS or a general degree. Support only continues while you keep passing, so the scheme rewards steady results across the whole degree, not one good exam.
How selection and renewal work
Eligibility combines three filters: academic merit in Class 12, financial need shown by the income certificate, and your status as a regular first-year undergraduate. The official notice for each cycle explains how eligible applications are assessed, so use it as your reference rather than older guides.
After selection, GJSS works as a yearly renewal. Each year you send proof, authenticated by your institution, that you passed and moved up. In semester systems both semesters count, so one failed semester can end support from that year onwards. Keep copies of every result, and find out early who in your college signs the status certificate.

A few checks before you apply will save a wasted application:
- Work out your Class 12 percentage on its own. NEB grade sheets show Class 11 and Class 12 separately, and only Class 12 counts here. If your result is in grades, check the notice for the accepted conversion.
- Confirm you are in the first year of a regular bachelor's programme at a recognised institution in Nepal, not a diploma.
- Check that your family income is under the limit and that you can get the income certificate from your local authority.
- If you already study on a government quota seat, a college merit award or a fee waiver, check the notice or ask the Embassy whether it counts as another scholarship.

The most recent cycle listed on this site closed in early November, so start preparing as soon as your bachelor's admission is confirmed. A typical sequence:
- At admission: ask your college early for the attested proof of first-year enrolment, since offices are often busy at the start of the academic year.
- Before the notice: request the income certificate and gather the citizenship certificates for yourself and both parents.
- When the notice is published: apply yourself on the official portal, save your login details and download the acknowledgement.
- Every year after selection: set a calendar reminder for the continuation documents and send them well before the deadline in the official notice.
