Dr. Homi J. Bhabha Scholarship Scheme (HJBSS)
The Dr. Homi J. Bhabha Scholarship Scheme (HJBSS) is offered by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu for Nepalese nationals to pursue Post-Graduate courses in engineering (M.E./M.Tech.) in Indian Universities/Institutions.
Eligibility Criteria
- 1Must be a Nepalese citizen
- 2Age should be 25 years or less as of July 1, 2026
- 3Must have passed Bachelor's level examination in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech)
- 4Minimum 60% aggregate marks in B.E./B.Tech
- 5Minimum 50% marks in English in Class XII (+2)
- 6Appearing candidates are NOT eligible (final graduation transcripts are mandatory)

- Original Bank Voucher of NRs. 400/-
Application Steps

Fill or type the application form carefully (separate form must be submitted for each course)
Provide at least three choices of engineering branches on the application form
Deposit the application fee of NRs. 400/- at any Nepal SBI Bank branch in favor of 'Education Wing, EoI, Kathmandu' (Account No. 17725240200331)
Prepare three (3) complete sets of the application form and required documents
Submit the applications in person (Monday to Friday, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm) or via post/courier to the Education Wing, Embassy of India, Kathmandu on or before June 04, 2026

Understanding the Dr. Homi J. Bhabha Scholarship Scheme (HJBSS)
The Dr. Homi J. Bhabha Scholarship Scheme is the Embassy of India, Kathmandu's route for Nepalese engineering graduates into master's programmes (M.E. or M.Tech) at Indian universities and institutions. It is named after Homi J. Bhabha, the physicist widely regarded as the founder of India's nuclear research programme, which fits a scheme aimed only at engineering. Like the SAARC hospitality scheme, it uses a paper application sent to the Embassy and has no entrance test, so your academic record decides the outcome.
It suits recent B.E. or B.Tech graduates with a solid aggregate who already know which specialisation they want. The age limit of 25 shapes everything else. An engineering bachelor's degree takes four years, so many graduates have only a few application cycles before they pass that limit. If you are interested, plan to apply soon after your final results rather than after several years of work.
How selection works
The Embassy assesses applications on academic record and forwards nominations, and Indian universities then decide placements. The Embassy may move you to a branch other than the ones you listed, depending on where a university can place you. That makes your branch choices more important than they look: list at least three that you would genuinely be happy to study, in your real order of preference, and do not add a branch just to fill the space.
Treat accepting a placement as binding. The scheme's rules heavily penalise withdrawing after placement, so decide whether you really want to study in India before you apply, not after you are placed.

- Your aggregate meets the minimum and your Class 12 English mark meets the English requirement.

- You are ready to commit to a full master's programme, which in India normally lasts two years.

Strategy and timeline
The most recent cycle listed on this site closed in early June. Universities can take weeks to issue final transcripts, so start before the notice appears:
- Final semester: ask your college or university how long final transcripts take, and request yours as soon as results are out.
- When the notice is published: download the form from the Embassy website. If you are applying for more than one course, prepare a separate form for each.
- Next: have your Class 12 and graduation transcripts notarised, and your citizenship certificate translated into English and certified by a notary.
- Then: pay the fee at a Nepal SBI Bank branch and keep the original voucher for your application set.
- Submission: make three complete sets and deliver them in person during the Embassy's submission hours, or by post or courier early enough to arrive on time.
- After applying: keep your phone and email active and watch for Embassy messages while placements are worked out.
