COMPEX Scholarship is offered by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu for Nepalese students to pursue undergraduate courses like Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Food Technology, and Nursing in India through a competitive entrance exam.
About COMPEX Scholarship 2026-27
The COMPEX Scholarship 2026-27 is a fully funded undergraduate scholarship scheme offered by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, for Nepalese citizens. It allows students to pursue BE/B.Tech, B.Pharmacy, B.Sc. Agriculture, Food Technology, and Nursing in top Indian universities. Selection is based on a competitive Computer-Based Test (CBT) conducted in Kathmandu. Preference is accorded to candidates who have completed their school studies in Nepal.
Eligibility Criteria
- 1Must be a Nepalese citizen
- 2Age between 16 to 23 years (as on 1 July 2026)
- 3Minimum 60% aggregate marks in Class 12
- 4Minimum 50% marks in English
- 5For Engineering: Minimum 60% in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM)
- 6For other courses: Minimum 55% in Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB)
- 7Must have completed or appearing in Class 12 (10+2 equivalent)

Understanding the COMPEX Scholarship
COMPEX is the Embassy of India, Kathmandu's exam-based route for Nepalese school leavers into professional undergraduate degrees in India. Unlike most other Indian government scholarships, a single computer-based test decides who moves forward. Meeting the Class 12 minimum percentages gets you to the exam, but after that your rank in the test matters far more than how far above the minimum your marks were.
It suits Nepalese science students who are finishing or have just finished Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Biology, and who already know they want engineering, pharmacy, nursing, agriculture or food technology. The seat table on this page shows that engineering takes the large majority of places, so competition looks quite different for PCM and PCB students. Students from management or humanities streams, and those whose only qualification is a diploma, should look at other schemes.
How selection works
COMPEX selection happens in four stages. First, your application is screened against the eligibility rules. Second, you sit the computer-based test in Kathmandu. Third, candidates are ranked, and each candidate's institute preferences are matched against their rank and the seats available. Finally, the Embassy nominates you and checks your original documents, and the Indian institute confirms the admission.
The third stage is where many students lose out without realising it. Your preference order is fixed once you submit, so if you list only the most sought-after institutes, a decent rank may still not reach any of them.
Strategy to strengthen your application
Most of what decides COMPEX happens before exam day. These are the habits we would build:
- Prepare for the papers you will actually sit: the combined English, Physics and Chemistry paper, plus Mathematics or Biology depending on your course.
- Practise without a calculator from the start. Get comfortable with mental arithmetic, approximation and ruling out wrong options quickly.
- Treat English as a scoring section. The syllabus on this page is grammar-heavy, and steady practice on tenses, voice, articles and agreement pays off for every stream.
- Work through the model sets on /compex-practice in order, since they get harder as you go. Time yourself and keep a list of the topics behind each wrong answer.
- Research institutes before the form opens. Look at location, the exact course offered and whether a JEE score is needed, then build a preference list that mixes competitive and less crowded options.
- Prepare your photo, signature and certificate PDFs early with /tools/compex-documents.
Timeline: what to do and when
Exact dates come from the Embassy each year. In the 2026-27 cycle the technical helpdesk email changed twice within a few days, so take contact details only from the latest official notice. The phases look like this:
- During Class 12: cover the syllabus, start timed practice, and create your Study in India account so your SII ID is ready.
- When the notice is published: read it in full, collect your mark sheets and any grade-to-percentage conversion your board requires (sample formats are on /documents), and finish the online steps early.
- After submitting: pay the fee with the challan, enter the challan details on the form, and keep the paid challan safe.
- Before the exam: watch your email for the admit card and read the official exam schedule for your shift.
- After results: take your original documents to the Embassy for verification, then contact your allotted college about the joining date.
