Image Resizer
Resize and compress your images entirely in your browser.
About Our Image Resizer Tool
When applying for the COMPEX or ICCR scholarship, the Embassy of India has strict rules for photo and signature sizes, and each portal sets its own limits. For COMPEX, for example, the passport photo must be between 100 KB and 200 KB and the signature between 80 KB and 150 KB; our COMPEX Document Prep tool produces files inside both ranges automatically. If a file is too large, the portal will refuse the upload. Our free Image Resizer tool helps students resize and compress their photos instantly. 100% of the processing happens in your browser, so your private documents are never uploaded to a server. Simply upload your image, enter the required width and height, set a maximum file size if the portal gives one, and download your resized JPG.
100% Private & Secure
Processed entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to any server and never leave your device.

How to use this tool
- Drag your photo or signature into the drop area, or click it to browse. JPG, JPEG and PNG files up to 10 MB are accepted.
- Use the icons on the preview card to crop, rotate in 90 degree steps, or view the image's resolution, size and type.
- In the By Size tab, choose a unit (pixels, inches, centimetres or millimetres) and type the width and height the portal asks for. Keep Lock Aspect Ratio ticked unless you have already cropped to the required shape.
- Or switch to As Percentage and scale with the slider (1 to 200 percent) or the 25, 50, 75, 100 and 150 percent shortcuts.
- If the portal sets a maximum file size, type it into Target File Size (KB). Leave it empty to keep the highest quality.
- Click Export, compare the before and after dimensions and file size under the result, then click Download.
Reading a portal's photo and signature rules
Most upload rules combine three limits: the image dimensions, a file size window in KB, and a format, almost always JPG. Treat them as separate targets, because changing the dimensions also changes the file size.
This tool converts centimetres, millimetres and inches at 96 pixels per inch, the usual screen standard, so if a notice also gives a pixel figure, type that instead. Files are most often rejected because:
- The file is larger than the maximum KB.
- The file is smaller than a minimum KB, after a small image was compressed too hard.
- The shape is wrong, such as a landscape crop where a portrait passport frame is expected.
- The format is wrong, such as PNG or HEIC where only JPG is allowed.
Tips for a sharp, accepted image
Crop first, then resize. Cropping to roughly the right shape lets the aspect ratio lock stay on, so faces are never stretched. Scaling above 100 percent adds no real detail.
Target File Size is a ceiling: the tool compresses until the file is at or below your number, but never adds size. If a portal also has a minimum and your result is too small, increase the pixel dimensions or clear the target and export again.
For signatures, sign with a dark pen on plain white paper, photograph it in daylight and crop tightly. The result is always a JPEG with a .jpg file name, even if you started from a PNG, which matters because some portals check the extension.
Your files stay on your device
Resizing, rotating, cropping and compression all happen inside your browser. The image is never uploaded to our server, and nothing is kept after you use Clear All or close the tab.
When another tool fits better
For COMPEX, /tools/compex-documents has a photo card that crops to the passport shape, writes 200 DPI and checks the result. This resizer suits ICCR, Study in India and other forms with their own numbers. To pull an image out of a PDF use /tools/pdf-to-jpg, and to combine images into one document use /tools/jpg-to-pdf.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my resized file bigger than the original?
With the target box empty, the image is saved at maximum JPEG quality, which can be larger than a heavily compressed original. Enter a Target File Size to bring it down.
Can I get an exact file size, such as exactly 50 KB?
The target is an upper limit, so the result lands at or just below it, which is what most portals want. If you fall below a minimum, raise the dimensions and export again.
Does this tool set the DPI of my photo?
No. It controls pixel dimensions and file size only. If a form checks DPI strictly, as the COMPEX photo field does, use /tools/compex-documents, which writes 200 DPI into the photo.
What does Lock Aspect Ratio do?
When ticked, typing a width fills in the matching height, and vice versa, so proportions stay the same. Untick it only for an exact width and height after cropping to that shape.
